Presidentś January-February Message
Welcome to one of the snowiest winters Colorado has seen in a long time!! Honestly, I
haven had to shovel in the past week as Granby is in the banana belt of Grand County, but I
know that I will be using shoveling as a workout several more days before Spring Break in
March.
First of all, I wish you all a Happy New Year. I hope that you are all taking care of
yourselves; staying caught up with vaccines, taking precautions against all of the germs out
there, and staying as upbeat as you can. Self Care is a new buzz word that I have been
hearing quite a bit in the Education realm. To me, Self Care means resting when your body
asks for it; exercising to keep the body in shape; eating healthily; drinking fluids and
recognizing when your body says Ḧelp. As many of you know, I have been subbing a lot the
past couple of years; since January, we have had RSV, the flu and COVID in the schools, and
students and teachers alike have dropped like flies. I know that I am fighting to stay healthy, and I
also know that I have responsibilities to you, my DKG Sisters.
Please look for The Call the first week of February. Mu Chapter is hosting us in
Longmont, which should be a fairly easy drive for everyone. We need to have a quorum, so I
am asking all Team Leaders and Chapter Presidents to attend OR to send a representative to
the meeting so that we can address the Business/Voting portion of our State
Amendments/Bylaws. There will be an option to be a part of the Business meeting via zoom.
Heidi Ragsdale and I will be coordinating that. Please understand that it won be very high tech;
but we want ALL Chapters and all Teams to be represented.
I am thrilled to announce that Dr. Barbara Boethe is going to be our International Guest
and our 2023 State Convention. I had the pleasure of meeting her several years ago when my
good friend Faye and I traveled to DKG Regional Conferences all over the country…just to visit
other states and make new friends. She will be delivering an International Update, and giving a
Keynote address during the Convention. She will also be available for one on one and group
discussions where she can share her experiences and her vast knowledge of all things DKG.
One of the International Conferences is in Phoenix this summer; and since we are a part
of the Southwest Region, I have been asked to help with a portion of the conference. I have
accepted the responsibility of Door Prizes for the state of Colorado, and here is my plan: I am
asking all chapters to come up with a small bag (think of people who are traveling); it can be
themed, a gift card, something useable; something distinctly Colorado. State chapters can work
with a sister chapter to develop a theme or create a bag. I think that our State Convention
would be a great deadline for those bags, and then they would be taken to Phoenix for the
Conference. Please understand that when we host the International Convention is 2026, we will
also be relying on our Southwest Sisters to help us create a great experience as well.
On the horizon are: Zoom meetings with the Executive Board and Personnel, emails
with forms for Team Leaders, three Chapter visits and at least one Zoom Chapter visit. I will do
my best to visit all chapters before the end of my biennium. (Early) Happy Valentines Day!! Be
safe, be kind to yourself and others, and plan to attend the Spring Board meeting in Longmont
and the 2023 State Convention in La Junta!!
Remember that I am a phone call/text or email away! Blessings!
