Happy Fall!
Does anyone else wonder where September went? I know that I was subbing a lot more than I had planned; it is just hard to say “No” when the need is so strong. Our District Homecoming Week was last week, and after it, my husband Mike and I were just plain worn down; he is the District HS/MS Athletic Director, and I manage the concessions stands for him, and we put in some long days.
Anyway, I am so pleased to announce that the planning for the 2023 State Convention is under way!! We have dates: June 5,6,7!! And we have a location. . . Otero College in La Junta!! Phi Chapter President Laverne Hanes, and Alpha Alpha Chapter President Sandy Nordyke have met via Zoom, and I will be traveling to Lamar and La Junta October 21-22 to meet with the Alpha Alpha Chapter (visitation!!) and to meet with Kathy Parker and other members of the Convention Committee. Needless to say, Laverne, Sandy and I are relieved that some initial steps have been taken and decisions have been made. Look forward to details as we get them; I will send updates to Chapter Presidents and those updates will be posted on the State Website.
In other State news, the Bylaws and Standing Rules Team, along with the Personnel Team, have been doing the intensive and serious work of revising the wording of “Duties of Officers and Professional and Appointed Personnel.” That wording will be presented at the Fall Board Meeting. I have forwarded a copy of that work to all of the Executive Board Members, and I will forward a copy to all Chapter Presidents to read, share and print. There may be a few copies at the Fall Board Meeting, but you all should print your own copy to bring to the meeting. I want to thank both teams, Susan Denny, Dr. Sue Petit, and True Morgan for their ongoing work and dedication to this project.
In International news, I received a ballot that ensured DKG would use the New Orleans Sheraton for another conference. For the 2022 International Conference, many of us secured other lodging; we were by no means the only ones. As a result, DKG International owes over $200,000 to the Sheraton; by promising to host another event there, that debt will be greatly reduced. I will share more details later.
On a personal note, I want to thank everyone for their communication, patience and good will as we move through the second year of my biennium. We have the Chapter President Mentoring Program in place with assignments (the Executive Team took this over), and I have contacted my group via email and plan a Zoom soon. We have the basics in place for the 2023 Convention, and we have the date and location for the 2023 Spring Board Meeting. I have made
a couple of Chapter visits, and will be visiting a couple of chapters in October. I will be in Arizona the first two weeks of November with my Mom; I will be available via phone/email/Zoom, but nothing in person for that month. Visits will resume in December, and I will be contacting those chapters that I didn’t get to visit last year to set a time. I would ask/remind you all to take a deep breath, be kind to yourself, and be kind to and patient with others. We are all doing the best that we can.
Blessings and I hope to see you soon.
