We are in full swing as far as the holiday goes: staff and chapter parties; buying and
wrapping gifts; planning for family get-togethers....it seems as though the lists will never end.
As you may have read on the website, we have a location and dates for the 2022 Summer
Leadership Conference: we will be at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado, from
June 6th through the 8th. We are penciled in for a main meeting area and three breakout
rooms, and I have an email into the on campus caterer; just know that details and plans will be
finalized in the New Year. We also have several DKG Sisters who are offering to lead
workshops in several different areas, and believe me, the Leadership Conference will be
amazing! Thanks to Penny Propst for her initial legwork and to Chapter Presidents Brenda
Kloberdanz and Kristie Benson for meeting with me and agreeing to host this event.
A wonderful idea from Carol Tebo: when she was last in Sterling for the DKG
Convention, she and a couple of her chapter sisters checked into fun places and events within
100 miles of Sterling and turned their trip into a true roadtrip by exploring opportunities in and
near Sterling, Colorado. Carpooling is also a very positive way of making this trek a true
roadtrip; just please don’t rule the Leadership Conference out because it is “so far away”. We
will have updates about the possibility of virtual attendance, but those details will come out later.
I apologize for shuffling the dates of the Chapter Presidents zoom meetings; I know how
incredibly busy you are from pre-Thanksgiving through the Christmas Break. One of the first
agenda items facing all of the state chapters is: New Officers...for those of you who have never
held an office because “I am not a leader” or “I don’t have the time”, please reconsider.
Leadership takes many different forms, and no one leads the same way that someone else
does. And think about the ways that you, as a dynamic woman educator, lead and have led
throughout your life. More and more, chapters have co-presidents which tends to lighten the
duties load. PLEASE consider taking an office in your local chapter; you won’t regret it nor will
you be on your own. Former chapter officers will be available to mentor, your Executive
Committee is a phone call, text or email away, and once again, you will have specific training at
the Leadership Conference in June.
I will be visiting chapters beginning this month, and I hope to visit all twenty six chapters
by the end of September 2022. Thank you to those chapters who have reached out; I have
scheduled what I can up to the end of April, and will be scheduling a couple for May.
As we move out of 2021, which was a bit more “Life as usual” and into 2022 which we
hope is even more ‘normal”, I pray that you all stay strong, stay healthy, enjoy your family and
friends time, focus forward and move into the New Year knowing that you are an integral part of
a dynamic organization. Blessings and Happy Holidays.
