Everything I Needed in Life I Learned From,,,
…And here we are…Nearly two years ago, we began the journey of this biennium. As I said in one of my President’s Blogs – We paid our money and what a ride it has been.
We set out to find the Treasures of DKG Past, Present, and Future, and what riches we discovered along the way.
On any treasure hunt you will have some obstacles, and oh what difficult paths we have traveled.
Do you remember those posters and T-shirts from years ago that said – Everything I Needed to know about life I learned in Kindergarten? Or from my dog or cat? And so on…
Well Everything I Needed to Know about treasure hunting came from COVID. WHAT? You ask. Let me Explain.
Year one of my biennium was sailing along, we had a good planning session for Teams, we had a good Fall Board meeting, I got to visit a lot of chapters. Everything normal, no big bumps, fun and easy. AND THEN…
We started hearing about this new illness and very soon everything stopped. Hmmm… Now what do we do?
None of us could have imagined the twists and turns of the Covid Rollercoaster. But we faced it as teachers face another group of unruly children. We looked for some new tools to dig with.
Two years ago very few of us had even heard of virtual meetings. Now we are so thankful that we could safely see our friends and continue to conduct our society business. Now that we can see each other face-to-face we still need to continue to use this new tool.
So what did I learn from COVID
C – Continue, Life is not always Comfortable, Circumstances change. But we Can Choose to Celebrate our Customs and Cheer each other on.
O – Organize to Overcome your Obligations. Realize that One can do a lot But together we can Obtain Our Goals
V – Voice your opinions but make sure they are Valid. Visit those in your chapter who are homebound. Be Vigilent in pursuing our purposes and you will be Victorious in supporting education.
I – Investigate the possibilities. Identify worthy goals and you will Invigorate And Increase your membership. You will be Irresistible!
D – Delve into the problems facing teachers in your District. Dare to make a Difference with your good Deeds. Declare your victory and DANCE!
Your programs and projects are your treasure, As are your friendships old and new. I am looking forward to our next biennium of adventures.
I have been so honored to have been your State President for 2019-2021. Yes, we climbed some mountains, but life is like that. I thank you so much for all the wonderful cards that I am receiving. I will put them in a special place where I can look through them when I miss seeing you.
But I do plan to keep seeing you and hope you are already planning to attend the Fall Board meeting in Pueblo and the State Team planning meeting coming soon.
Our state and many chapters lost many cherished members this year. They were celebrated in a lovely ceremony at our State Convention. Honor and remember them by finding the next generation of Key Women Educators. They are out there. We need to let them know that DKG is the solution to that vague feeling of isolation that they are feeling in education today.
Tell your story, your family story, your professional story, your human story. Ask others to tell theirs. Write it down and save it.
But most of all continue to be the Treasure of Colorado DKG, Key Women Educators Impacting Education, one child, one teacher, one community at a time.
