Happy Fall!! I have a lot to share and to celebrate.
First off, we have the dates, the location and the buy in from host chapters for the 2023
State Convention!! We will be gathering at Otero College June 5,6, and 7th. Lilly Vigil and I
traveled to La Junta and Lamar, and met with Laverne Hanes and Kathy Parker to tour the
college site. We then traveled to Lamar to meet with the Alpha Alpha chapter with Laverne and
Kathy joining at the end of the meeting to brainstorm Convention ideas. I can tell you that the
ideas, the creativity and the positive energy were flying around that room! Lilly and I walked
away feeling secure in the knowledge that the 2023 Convention will be one of the best ever!
Still in process: the lodging, schedule and special events; I will give you one hint: We
will be starting earlier on the first day with the hopes of a special event that night! We will have
a few Business sessions as we will have quite a bit of business to take care of, but we will also
have guest speakers and break out sessions. If you or any of your Chapter members have
ideas for Speakers or Break outs, please forward them to Paulette Evans-Deutsch and/or Karen
Libby. We will conduct a meeting similar to the one we had planning the State Leadership
Conference where we finalized the format and the content of the sessions. One focus that has
been mentioned is Human Trafficking, while another ongoing one is Teacher Mental Health.
Please don’t limit yourself to those topics; we want to create sessions that will be as lively and
fun and educational as the ones held last summer at the Leadership Conference
All State Chapter Presidents should look for emails from me. I will be scheduling 3-4
Zoom meetings during the 2nd-3rd week of November, and I would ask that every Chapter
President, and/or a representative, be a part of one of those meetings. Along with this
message, which Heidi will post on the website, I will be attaching and sending info from
International…about reaching out to Chapter members and finding new ones. It was a part of a
Zoom meeting held November 1st; I just didn’t get the link sent out in time. Anyway, please be
assured that I will be better in passing along information from International.
Speaking of that, one of the International Conferences will be held in Phoenix, AZ July
18-22. Carol Herzog is part of the Organizing Committee, and has asked me to see if Colorado
Omega State is interested in helping gather Door Prizes. It would be a matter of coordinating
perhaps one Door Prize/Chapter and then getting those items to AZ. First of all, I hope that our
DKG sisters would be a part of that; secondly, if there is anyone who would like to oversee the
project, please let me know. While I won’t be able to attend the Phoenix International
Conference, I can certainly get the items there. Food for thought….and heavens, I will need
something to do once I hand over the gavel to Dr. Maxine Fawcett-Yeske. Please don’t hesitate
to contact me with questions.
Ladies, I wish you a peaceful, bountiful and Happy Thanksgiving. Blessings to you and
yours. Remember that I am only an email/text/phone call away…except November 18-25 when
I will be out of the country. I will also be looking through yearbooks to find open dates to visit
chapters, so look for that as well. Thank you all for your support and all you do to support
teachers and students here in Colorado.
