First of all, it has been my honor to serve as the Colorado Omega State President for the
past two years. I have enjoyed my travel around the state, I have been privileged to meet with
chapters of many different sizes, and I have been humbled by the warm welcomes that I have
gotten from all of my Colorado sisters.
As I was processing the 2023 Convention, and thinking about this final message, a ditty
from my time as a Girl Scout came to mind:
“Make new friends, but keep the old
One is silver and the other gold….”
There have been some changes to the Colorado Bylaws and Standing Rules, and there
will be more to come as Susan Denny and her team bring Colorado Omega State into
compliance with the changes made at the 2022 International Convention. There will, of course,
be changes in the Executive Team as the leaders for the 2023-2025 biennium are trained, do
some planning and work towards the betterment of the State Organization. There will be
changes to the paid personnel as we voted on the Term Limits for Paid Personnel; change is
tough, but it is also necessary to keep our State Organization functioning and forward-moving. I
am proud of the work and discussions of the Personnel Committee in this area. Another area
of, maybe not change but transparency, is with Scholarship financing. This is an in-progress
movement and is spearheaded by our State Treasurer, our Scholarship Team and the Finance
Team. I am thrilled that the three entities are working together to ensure that we have
scholarship monies to give out and that we do it in a fiscally responsible way.
The 2021-2023 Executive Team continued the work that was started by Immediate Past
President Leila Koenig; State Chapters were ‘adopted’ by members of the Team as yet another
way to set up connections and networking. As President, I tried to include all corners of the
State for our Board meetings, Leadership Conference and Convention. The locations of the
Conference and Convention are dictated by our Bylaws, and the ladies of those chapters rose to
the occasion and created unique, fun and reasonably-priced events.
Our International guest for the 2023 Convention, International 1st VP Connie Rensink,
was very impressed; she had never attended a State Event that was: 1) during the week as
opposed to the weekend; and 2) not in a hotel. She had fun, she changed tables regularly so
that she could meet/talk with as many of the Convention attendees as possible. She conducted
a post-Convention/post-biennium interview with me, and all that I could repeat is that the sisters
of Colorado Omega State were talented, focused, present in their different communities and that
each one had a unique presence…whether they were a large group or a very small group, the
ladies worked together to keep their chapters vibrant and meaningful.
I look forward to helping Dr. Maxine Fawcett-Yeske as she moves into her presidency; I
look forward to seeing you/many of you at State functions or chapter visits (if I am called upon to
visit); and please remember that I am no more than a text/email/phone call away. Thank you
also to those who sent me post-Convention cards and notes; I appreciate the kind words more
than you know.
Have a wonderful summer; take care of yourself. Be kind to yourself and to others.
Blessings!
